 Conclusion

In conclusion, throughout this project, our goal was to learn more about the information system of Ultra-Standard Distributors, however, we learned much more than was intended. Through our conversations with the MIS manager, David Yourish, we were able to understand the company’s business strategies, competitive strategies, and business processes. Ultra-Standard Distributors uses Porter’s five forces to maximize sales while providing a best-in-class assortment to their customers. Our team focused on the sales and marketing department and how they support the company’s goals. We learned that the sales and marketing department’s main goal is to assist firms in expanding their distribution to cater to the expanding multicultural market. By providing marketing services, retailer-focused digital initiatives, category management, and supply chain solutions in addition to distribution, they are able to meet business and competitive strategies. We also learned how the application system called AS400 is currently being used to assist in completing these goals. By breaking down the IS into five components: hardware, software, data, procedures, and people, we were able to analyze its various strengths and weaknesses. Although we did not find any weaknesses in the AS400 application system, we do recommend that Ultra-Standard Distributors upgrade their presence in social media and website’s catalog search engine. With these changes, Ultra-Standard would be more efficient and effective in maintaining their sales and marketing goals.
